Design, symbology and storytelling can convey emotions in a way that celebrates moments and honors people. This award represents a pillar under the established values of Japanese Kintsugi culture: the acceptance of the metaphorical imperfect or defective. A message on how we must know how to deal with and accept our past pains and frustrations by owning them in a way that enriches our life course, making us a more complete and capable human being.

"Through design thinking, it was possible to condense the assumptions that underpinned the choice of the honored person and convey the emotions, recognition and motives of such attribution.
We arrived at a pillar. A representation of pillars that hold large and small buildings. Champion of the Year is, in fact, part of the foundation of a very relevant construction and organization, where larger structures flourish and grow. This trophy is in fact an important part of the institution's strength and past, present and future.
Thus we decided upon the use of an ancient Japanese technique called Kintsugi or Kintsukuroi which, as a philosophy and in tune with the wabi-sabi view, treats the breaking and repair of ceramics as part of an object's history. The repaired joint uses gold dust, adding value, beauty and rarity to its existence, while emphasizing that adversity is a gift for learning, growing and improving. "
