Smoke-Free Pause Cabin.

Pause Cabin

Smoking breaks in industrial environments inspired the development of a ventilated and controlled cabin that evolved into a multifunctional space for breaks, communication, and work.

Aligning work breaks with organizational operations.

In industrial settings, smoking breaks are a reality in many organizations. However, how these breaks are managed often creates operational, environmental, and organizational challenges. Legislation requires that they take place in properly ventilated and physically separated spaces, ensuring that smoke does not affect other employees.

At the same time, the lack of suitable spaces can lead to worker dispersion, inequality in break time management, and discomfort between teams and management. In this context, the need arose to create specific equipment that could simultaneously address legal requirements, environmental health conditions, and work organization.

The challenge was to develop equipment that would create an appropriate space for smokers within industrial environments, ensuring adequate ventilation, air quality control, and physical separation from other areas. Beyond technical and regulatory requirements, the solution also had to address internal management challenges, namely the control of break times and the organization of space usage by employees. The cabin also needed to be compact, robust, and adapted to the industrial context.

A new type of equipment

Everythink began the project through a design research process, analyzing the usage context, applicable legal requirements, and existing market solutions. The goal was to understand not only the technical need for a smoking area but also its impact on the organizational environment and team well-being.
Based on this analysis, the project evolved into a more comprehensive concept: instead of a simple smoking cabin, the idea of a multifunctional pause cabin was explored, capable of meeting different needs within contemporary work environments.

The result was the development of a Pause Cabin, modular equipment designed to create a controlled break space with proper ventilation and air filtration. Beyond the physical structure of the cabin, the system integrates various functional elements, including light signaling to indicate the space's usage status and employee identification systems that allow for the recording and management of break times.

The concept also evolved to allow for broader applications, being usable not only as a smoking cabin but also as a space for phone calls, online meetings, or brief moments of rest in different contexts, from industrial environments to offices, public buildings, or airports.
